8 Shot Journey Evaluation

I am going to evaluate each of the shots i did for my 8 shot journey that i made last week. I tryed to use a different shot for each shot and i thought carefully on what type of shot is suitable for different actions within a sequence of a journey. Firstly, i wanted to show that Reece, the traveler, has realised he is late so i used an ECU of his face to show this emotion, which worked well, before him then starting to run. For the second shot i used a MLS to capture Reece just after he began running and continued the shot untill he got a bit further up the path before cutting for the next show. This shot worked as i just wanted to show him running and by using this shot type it showed clearly what was going on as he was clearly in the frame the entire time of the shot. The next shot i did was my favorate one, i used a ELS to show reece running from the sideways up a slope going right to left and then making a u -turn to come back the other way to make sure he keeps going right. By using a ELS i feel i chose the right shot type as it shows clearly what reece is doing and any other shot type woudn't be able to show him for the entire shot. I then used a LS to show the continuaty of travel which showed Reece appearing from the end of the last cut and then continuing his journey down the steps, and then i kept following him on the same route onto the next shot using a MS as he ran past the camera. For the next shot i wanted to return to the idea of him stopping to show emotion using a CU so i had him run into the shot looking tired and then taking a break to regain his breath before setting of on the journey again. I once again thought this worked well as by using a CU it clearly shows his face and the emotion. I then did the second last shot which was a build up to him getting to his destination using a MLS to show him running towards the bus stop, which i also show in the shot in the background as he makes his way there. This was a good way to then cut into the final shot as i used a MCU to show him arriving at his destination and showed through his actions that he has made it there in time. I felt this was a suitable shot and way of doing the final shot as it clearly shows him getting to his destination. I felt overall that the task went well and i was pleased with the outcome of my film, if i was to do it again i would use a bigger variety of shot types but overall i felt everything went to plan.

8 Shot Journey Facts

- We were set a task to make a short film showing a 8 shot journey of one person as they go from one place to a certain destination.
- We were giving Video cameras by the college to film these around the area
- The sequence is silent with no script.
- First we designed story boards to give a step by step plan of the journey.
- A shot is made up of frames and is a period of action on screen that lasts until the end of action.
- A frame makes a shot as it is a single cell of film that takes lots of still images to make one smooth running action.
- The entire sequence was only 30-40 seconds long.
